Nasir Idris, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, was elected governor of Kebbi State by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
After defeating Senate Majority Leader Yahaya Abdullahi and retired Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs Abubakar Mallam, Idris, who is also the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was declared the winner.
Idris received 1,055 votes, while Abdullahi received none. With 35 votes, Abubakar Mallam was elected.
Idris Yahuza Ya'akub, the chairman of the APC Kebbi governorship primary (National Secretariat), announced the poll results early Friday morning.
In his acceptance speech, Idris praised Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for ensuring that the party's primary poll was held peacefully and without incident.
