Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, have successfully foiled a robbery attempt along the Odogbolu corridor of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway in Ogun State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, resulted in one suspect being fatally shot during a gun duel with Amotekun operatives, while another, identified as Amechie Okoro, was arrested.

Gang Leader Arrested After Confession

According to a statement signed by the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adeditgba (retd), and made available to DAILY POST in Abeokuta, Okoro later led security operatives to the gang’s hideout. This led to the arrest of another gang member, Micheal Oko, who had initially escaped the crime scene.

During interrogation, Okoro confessed that he had been released from Ikoyi Prison just a week prior. Meanwhile, Oko admitted that he was recruited into the criminal gang by their leader, known as Awuha.

Weapons, Cash, and Stolen Items Recovered

Items recovered from the suspects include:

  • ₦113,050 in cash
  • A motorcycle (Lagos KTU 668)
  • 12 stolen phones
  • Two locally made pistols
  • A silver wristwatch
  • A red headphone

Police Take Over Investigation

Brig. Gen. Adeditgba confirmed that the deceased suspect’s body had been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue by the police. Meanwhile, the two arrested suspects will be handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

This successful operation highlights Amotekun’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of travelers along Ogun State highways.
