In a decisive move, Oyo State Police Commissioner, Adebola Hamzat, has taken swift action by ordering the immediate dismissal of two members of the special constabulary, Jimoh Lukman and Kareem Fatai, working with the state command.

The dismissal comes in response to allegations of extortion, and the affected officers were publicly paraded at the Oyo State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan.

The announcement of their dismissal was made during the parade on Wednesday, as revealed in a statement issued by CP Hamzat and made available to journalists on Thursday. The dismissal follows a recommendation for an orderly room investigation into the alleged misconduct.

The controversy arose weeks ago when a viral video depicted the two constables, Jimoh Lukman and Kareem Fatai, soliciting money from a Dutch tourist who was riding a power bike from the Netherlands to Abuja. The video sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians both online and offline.

In response to the public outcry and the embarrassing nature of the incident, CP Adebola Hamzat stripped the two constables of their uniforms, officially confirming their dismissal from the police service. He emphasized that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) will not tolerate any corrupt practices within the Nigerian police force.

Addressing the issue, CP Hamzat stated, “The two dismissed constabularies would not be prosecuted in court since they were not originally trained officers of the Nigerian police.” This dismissal serves as a clear message that the Nigerian police are committed to upholding integrity and ensuring that officers adhere to the highest standards of conduct. Stay tuned for further updates on police accountability and actions against misconduct.
