The Kuje Custodial Center escapee Kazeem Murtala, 54, has been apprehended, according to the Niger State Police Command.
According to a statement issued by the state's police public relations officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the prisoner was apprehended by police while they were on patrol near General Hospital Suleja and in the Bakassi neighborhood of Suleja. Based on reliable information,
According to the report, "on 9/07/2022, Police operatives attached to 'A' Division Suleja while on patrol around general hospital Suleja down to Bakassi area of Suleja and based on credible intelligence, the police operatives stormed an identified compound and arrested one Kazeem Murtala aged 54yrs."
According to Abiodun, the prisoner admitted to fleeing from Kuje jail during the assault when being questioned.
He claimed that the prisoner had been in detention for the previous two years and was currently serving a jail sentence after being found guilty of a crime he committed.
The statement went on to say that the inmate had been moved to the detention center on the instruction of the state commissioner of police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas.
The state police leadership then thanked the public for providing the police with this information and urged them to continue their efforts in the battle against crime and criminality in the state.
