A viral video of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos has ignited massive reactions online after she claimed NYSC officials threatened her for criticizing Nigeriaβs economic situation under President Bola Tinubu.
The young Corps member first gained attention after posting an emotional video lamenting the skyrocketing cost of goods in the country. She described the economic hardship as "terrible," expressing deep frustration over rising living expenses. However, shortly after her video went viral, she released another clip, alleging that an NYSC official contacted her and pressured her to delete her post.
This revelation sparked outrage across social media, with many Nigerians condemning the alleged intimidation. Netizens pointed out that the economic crisis is a harsh reality for many young people, and the Corps memberβs concerns reflected the struggles of ordinary citizens.
Social media activist Martis Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has now weighed in on the matter. In a video shared on his platform, VDM strongly defended the Corps member, stating that she had every right to voice her frustrations. He reassured her that she would not be abandoned if the alleged threats led to job difficulties, offering his support in the face of adversity.
The incident has reignited conversations about free speech and economic hardship in Nigeria, as citizens continue to grapple with the rising cost of living.
