Tragic news has emerged from Edo State, as kidnappers suspected to be herdsmen are reported to have taken the life of a civil servant and farmer identified as Inofomoh Gabriel.

The incident occurred in the Jattu community, the headquarters of the Uzairue clan in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, Gabriel, who also served as a staff member of Auchi Polytechnic, ventured to his farm last Wednesday but failed to return home. Concerned family members and community members organized a search party to scour the surrounding bushlands for any sign of the missing farmer.

Tragically, Gabriel's lifeless body was discovered in the bush on Saturday, bearing numerous machete wounds. Suspicion has fallen on herders who have previously been involved in the kidnapping of farmers in the area, with some cases resulting in fatalities.

The matter has been reported to the Jattu Police Division, although an official statement from the authorities is pending. Esilama Uduimoh, a friend of the victim, confirmed the heartbreaking incident in a Facebook post, expressing grief and calling for action against the perpetrators.

As the community mourns the loss of Gabriel and grapples with the menace of kidnapping and violence, calls for justice and increased security measures resonate. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by farmers and communities in confronting insecurity, and underscores the need for concerted efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
