The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, formally resigned from his ministerial post.

The announcement was made by his spokesperson, Simon Macham, in a statement explaining that Lalong submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The purpose of the resignation is to enable him to take his newly won seat as the senator for the Plateau South Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lalong's victory in the senatorial election, declared by the Court of Appeal on November 7, saw him defeating Napoleon Bali, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Macham clarified in the statement that Lalong's decision to step down from his ministerial role was not taken lightly, considering the trust and confidence President Tinubu had placed in him. Lalong had previously served as the director-general of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, contributing significantly to the APC's success.

The statement highlighted Lalong's gratitude to President Tinubu for the honor and privilege of serving in the cabinet, as well as the personal support and guidance provided during his tenure as minister. It emphasized that the decision to resign was reached after extensive consultations with the President, critical stakeholders, and Lalong's constituents. The statement quoted Lalong as expressing his commitment to contributing to the "Renewed Hope" agenda of the government and fostering the growth of democracy in the country through his role in the Red Chambers.

As Simon Lalong transitions from his ministerial responsibilities to his new role as a senator, the political landscape anticipates his continued dedication to public service and contributions to the nation's governance.
