In a distressing turn of events, reports have emerged of a fatal attack on two police officers who were on stop-and-search duty at Ohii junction in Owerri-west Local Government Area of Imo state.

The incident took place on Monday at approximately 4 p.m., marking a dark chapter in the region's security landscape.

According to information obtained by TheCable, the assailants, believed to be gunmen, initiated the violence by robbing and fatally assaulting a point-of-sale (POS) operator before turning their attention to the unsuspecting police officers. Eyewitnesses revealed that the gunmen began shooting indiscriminately, catching the officers off guard and leaving them with no opportunity to defend themselves.

A witness at the scene recounted the chilling events, stating, "Two policemen have just been shot dead by unknown gunmen. Three other civilians, including a POS operator, were also shot dead in this horrifying incident." The assailants' brazen and violent actions not only claimed the lives of the law enforcement officers but also resulted in the tragic loss of three innocent civilians, including the targeted POS operator.

The motive behind this ruthless attack remains unclear, and local authorities are expected to launch an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The community is left grappling with the shock and grief that often accompanies such senseless acts of violence. As the details unfold, the need for heightened security measures and a swift response to apprehend the perpetrators becomes increasingly apparent.
