A wave of sorrow swept through Imo State as news broke of a tragic incident involving the loss of two police officers at the hands of unidentified gunmen suspected to be affiliated with the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an armed group associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to Henry Okoye, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the chilling attack occurred along old Gariki Road in Okigwe Council Area. Okoye conveyed the grim details to reporters in Owerri, shedding light on the horrifying events that unfolded during a routine security patrol.

The assailants, armed with dynamite, ambushed the officers, unleashing a barrage of explosives that claimed the lives of two brave law enforcement personnel. Despite the ferocity of the assault, four officers managed to survive the harrowing ordeal, engaging in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the attackers.

In response to the heinous act, the Imo State Police Command, led by Commissioner CP Aboki Danjuma, swiftly condemned the attack and expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the officers from Mopol 18, Owerri. Describing the assailants as "disgruntled elements," the command vowed to collaborate with other security agencies to apprehend those responsible for the cowardly assault.

Immediately following the tragic incident, CP Aboki Danjuma, in tandem with the commanders of Mopol 18 and 64, mobilized operatives of the Command's Special Tactical Unit to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the crime scene. Tasked with bringing the perpetrators to justice, law enforcement agencies embarked on a concerted effort to track down the culprits and ensure that justice is served for the fallen officers.

As the community mourns the loss of these courageous individuals, the resolve to combat violence and uphold the rule of law remains unwavering. The sacrifice of these officers serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement personnel in the line of duty and underscores the imperative of unity in the fight against criminality and insurgency.
