The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has expressed its readiness to partner with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's administration in safeguarding Anambra State's forests, which have become hotspots for criminal activities, including kidnappings and brutal murders.

This announcement follows a string of alarming incidents that have rocked the state. Recently, a Catholic priest was killed, an Anglican clergyman abducted, and a prominent politician kidnapped. The most recent tragedy occurred on December 30, 2024, when armed assailants massacred eight individuals in Chigbonu village, Umuike Ubahuekwem, Ihiala. These violent acts have heightened fears and concerns across the state.

Speaking on the issue, NFSS Commander in Anambra, Destiny Jonas, highlighted the agency’s commitment to leveraging its expertise to secure forests and nearby communities for both safety and economic development. Jonas noted that the NFSS is well-acquainted with the state's terrain and has the capability to operate efficiently in remote and forested areas.

The NFSS is ready to support the state’s Operation Udo Ga Di Na Anambra Security Initiative, a program designed to dismantle criminal networks that instill fear and disrupt peace in the hinterlands. Commander Jonas emphasized the critical role of intelligence gathering in identifying and neutralizing threats lurking within the forests.

By teaming up with other security agencies, the NFSS aims to restore safety, enhance forest security, and ensure a peaceful Anambra State for all.
