The Football Academy set up by the Super Falcon of Nigeria captain, Asisat Oshoala has been nominated among the Socrates football champion award.
About the award, Dr Socrates was a legendary Brazilian footballer and medical doctor who was one of the stars of the 1982 World Cup (he captained Brazil at the tournament). He was also famous for fighting against military rule in Brazil and for supporting social causes. His younger brother Rai captained Brazil at the 1994 World Cup. Dr Socrates earned his medical degree while still playing professional football.
L'Equipe Group (owners of France Football and the Ballon d'Or) teamed up with his family to create this award for footballers who have worked to give back to society either through charity or some other social activity. Sadio Mane won it last year.
