Uruguay’s desperation to salvage their World Cup hopes has pushed the South American giants to deploy some tactics that Spanish giant Barcelona has found unpleasant.

Diego Alonso’s team is trying to force defender Ronald Araujo to full fitness ahead of their final group stage game against Ghana.

According to Barca Universal, however, Barcelona are unhappy that La Celeste are rushing Araujo’s recovery, with the defender already resuming training with the ball even though it has been just two months since he underwent surgery.

Araujo apparently had a deal with Barça and Uruguay, stating he wouldn't participate in the World Cup and would instead merely be there to support the team while continuing his recovery.

The 23-year-old central defender was named in the South Americans' squad for the Mundial in Qatar, despite not fully recovering from the injury he suffered in September.

Aruajo’s return delayed by injury

Barcelona defender Jose Araujo will not feature for Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup unless they reach the knockout stages, Football Espana reported.

Uruguay needs a positive result in their final group match-up against old foe Ghana if they stand any chance of qualifying for the World Cup knockout stages.

Diego Alonso’s side have struggled in Qatar, with an opening 0-0 draw in Group H against South Korea followed by a 2-0 defeat to Portugal.
