Brazil and AC Milan legend Marcos Evangelista de Morais, famously known as Cafu, has dismissed Cristiano Ronaldo’s claim of being the greatest footballer in history.
Ronaldo, who continues to dominate the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr at 40, recently declared himself the most complete player of all time. However, Cafu strongly disagrees, placing Diego Maradona, Pelé, Michel Platini, Franz Beckenbauer, and Garrincha ahead of the Portuguese superstar.
Cafu: "Cristiano Is a Phenomenon, But Not the Greatest."
In an interview with journalist Randall Vargas (via La Nacion), the two-time World Cup winner and Brazil’s most-capped player shared his thoughts:
"Cristiano is a phenomenon, but not the best player of all time. If we talk about history, we must mention Maradona, Pelé, Platini, Beckenbauer, and Garrincha. These were incredible players."
Cafu acknowledged Ronaldo’s dominance for several years but insisted that the GOAT debate must include footballers who surpassed him in overall ability and influence.
Ronaldo’s Unwavering Confidence in His Legacy
This isn’t the first time Ronaldo has boldly proclaimed his superiority. In a 2015 interview with BBC, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus star made his stance clear:
"In my mind, I’m always the best. I don’t care what people think, what they say."
Despite his critics, CR7 remains relentless in pursuit of greatness, recently surpassing 900 career goals as he eyes an unprecedented 1,000-goal milestone.
The football world continues to debate: Is Ronaldo truly the greatest, or do legends like Pelé and Maradona still reign supreme?
