Enugu Rangers have claimed the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title for the eighth time, securing their championship with a decisive 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance in Enugu on Sunday.
Their win coincided with losses by their closest rivals, Remo Stars and Enyimba, who both suffered 2-1 defeats to Sunshine Stars and Sporting Lagos, respectively.
The Flying Antelopes took the lead in the 33rd minute with a goal from Augustine Kenechukwu. Chidiebere Nwobodo added a second goal in the 65th minute, ensuring a triumphant conclusion to their match.
Meanwhile, Remo Stars were defeated 2-1 by Sunshine Stars in Akure, and Enyimba fell 2-1 to Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. This series of results allowed Enugu Rangers, whose previous league victory was in 2016, to emerge as the NPFL champions once again.
With this latest title, Enugu Rangers are now just one championship win behind Enyimba, who hold nine NPFL titles.
