Enyimba FC has been awarded a prize of N100 million for emerging victorious in the 2022–23 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season.
The team, known as the "People's Elephants, clinched the title after securing a 1-1 draw against Rivers United on the final day of the NPL Super Six playoffs.
This prize money sets a new record as the highest amount ever received by a team in the history of Nigerian domestic football.
In the previous season, Rivers United had received N50 million for winning the league.
As the champions, Enyimba FC, along with the runners-up Remo Stars, will represent Nigeria in the prestigious CAF Champions League in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Rivers United, which finished in third place, will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Additionally, the winner of the Federation Cup will also have the opportunity to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup.
