Gary Neville exposes Manchester United’s big problem under Ten Hag
Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, has exposed the club’s big problem ahead of their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
According to Neville, Manchester United’s big problem is centre-back options.
Man United resumed their ongoing 2022-2023 season with a 2-0 Carabao Cup last-16 win against Burnley at Old Trafford earlier this week, thanks to two goals from Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford.
But during the Carabao Cup tie, midfielder Casemiro and defender Victor Lindelof started as the centre-back pairing in manager Erik ten Hag’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.
While Raphael Varane sustained a knock in the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup final between France and Argentina in Qatar, summer signing Lisandro Martinez has been handed an extended break after his involvement in the same tie.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said, “They [Man United] look like they have got a big problem at centre-back.
“Martinez looks like he is going to be out for at least a couple of weeks. Varane obviously was injured, and you don’t know when he is going to return.”
He continued, “If Maguire’s ill, they are going to go with a weakened defense into those Premier League games." "I think if they had been playing against a Premier League team [in the EFL Cup], they would’ve been punished, so they have got to get some players back.”
