Liverpool Football Club is thrilled to announce that Arne Slot has agreed to become the club’s new head coach, officially taking on the role starting June 1, 2024, pending a work permit.
The 45-year-old Dutchman will join the Reds from Feyenoord, ahead of the 2024-25 season, after a deal was secured with the Eredivisie club. Slot will succeed Jürgen Klopp, who will be stepping down at the end of the current season.
Slot brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. During his three-year tenure at Feyenoord, he led the team to the league title in 2023 and was honored as Eredivisie Manager of the Year twice. Most recently, he guided Feyenoord to victory in the KNVB Cup, securing a 1-0 win over NEC Nijmegen in the final.
Before his successful stint at Feyenoord, Slot was the head coach at AZ Alkmaar, where he led the team to second place in the league, just behind Ajax on goal difference, before the 2019-20 season was canceled due to COVID-19.
As a player, Slot was a versatile midfielder, having played for FC Zwolle, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam, and PEC Zwolle before retiring in 2013.
