Former Commissioner for Sports in Rivers State, Christopher Green, has rewarded the players of Rivers United with N5 million for their victory over Bendel Insurance in the Nigeria Premier Football League Championship Playoffs.

Green had promised to reward the team while addressing them before the game.

Goals from Morice Chukwu and Joseph Onoja ensured the Pride of Rivers beat the Benin Arsenal to end their 21-game unbeaten run in the league.

The Pride of Rivers currently occupy second place on the table with eight points from four games.

Stanley Eguma’s side needs to beat the People’s Elephant to successfully defend their title.

The encounter will take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday.
