The introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the 2023–24 Nigeria Professional Football League season has been announced by the Nigeria Referees Association.

During a conversation with the media, Sanni Zubair, the NRA's president, revealed this.

According to Zubair, the implementation of VAR would improve the performance of referees during games.

He continued by saying that the association is closely cooperating with the NPFL broadcast partner to reach the objective.

Zubair, a retired FIFA-badged referee, is optimistic about improved officiating in the upcoming season.

The new season will kick off on September 9 with the Shooting Stars versus Plateau United tie at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
