Nigeria’s Flamingos returned to Abuja on Tuesday following their impressive performance at the just concluded 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

Bankole Olowookere’s side finished in third place in the competition after edging out Philadelphia 3-2 on penalties.

It was the country’s best ever finish in the history of the competition.

The vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Felix Anyansi-Agwu, led a number of senior officials of the body, including Secretary-General Mohammed Sanusi, to receive the players and their officials at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday afternoon.

The players were later received at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, by Sports Minister, Sunday Dare.

“We commend you for the way you performed without fear and held up the flag to win a historic bronze for our country in this competition,” Dare said at the ceremony.

“I praise the NFF for the support it has given the team, right from their screening through the qualifiers and the arrangements for the final camp in Turkey and the final tournament in India. "We must also commend the coaching crew for their steadfastness in imparting the right knowledge to the players.”
