President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for public universities currently integrated into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) to disengage from the payment platform.

This noteworthy decision was announced by the Minister of Education, Prof. Mamman Tahir, shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Tinubu.

Further elucidating on the presidential directive, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, shared insights on Wednesday. He stated, "Today, the universities and other tertiary institutions have gotten a very big relief from the integrated payroll and personnel information system." The move comes in response to persistent appeals from university authorities and other tertiary institutions seeking exemption from the IPPIS.

The approval from the Federal Executive Council signifies a significant shift. Minister Idris explained, "Today, Council has graciously approved that. What that means is that going forward, the universities, like the Minister of Education has said, and other tertiary institutions, the polytechnics and colleges of education, will be taken off the IPPIS." In essence, this decision empowers university authorities and other tertiary institutions, including polytechnics and colleges of education, to manage and disburse personnel payments autonomously, relieving them from reliance on the IPPIS.
