Cheryl returned briefly to Instagram on Tuesday (June 14, 2022) to tell followers about her latest charity endeavour in honour of late band member Sarah Harding.

Girls Aloud lost Sarah Harding on September 5, 2021, after she battled breast cancer for more than a year. The pop group were last seen together during their 2013 Ten: The Hits Tour, before each member returned to their solo careers and family life.

When the blonde singer first revealed her breast cancer had “advanced to other parts of my body”, we – along with her other 437k followers – were shocked as she was always the energetic “rock chick” in Girls Aloud.

While Cheryl’s ex, Liam Payne, has been making waves on social media thanks to his Impaulsive podcast interview, the Fight For This Love singer has been relatively inactive on her platforms. She did, however, make a comeback on her Instagram Story yesterday to inform followers about her charity run.

While the remaining Girls Aloud singers are organising a gala dinner, as per Sarah’s request, they’ve taken it one step further and are partnering with Cancer Research UK for a fundraising campaign to honour their friend.

Cheryl, Nicola and Nadine will participate in the 5k Race for Life For Sarah on Sunday, 24 July 2022 at Hyde Park, London.

The event kicks off at 11.30am, with the girls asking fans to be part of the special tribute. Those unable to attend are encouraged to join in at home or hold their own run. That’s what Kimberley Walsh will do as she won’t be in the capital.

“Around this time last year, when Sarah was really sick, we were desperately trying to find a way to help and comfort her. You feel so helpless at times like that. One of the only things she really wanted was a gala dinner,” Cheryl told fans.

“While that’s under way and we are doing that, we felt we could be doing more. We’ve decided to do Race For Life For Sarah at Hyde Park.”

Adult and young adult participation will cost £14.99 per person, while children’s tickets are priced at £10.99.

Race For Life At Home For Sarah can take place any time during 2022, with the distance up to you. Raise £50 and you’ll be sent a medal in the post.

The 39-year-old spent her time in hospital writing her autobiography, Hear Me Out, while she underwent chemotherapy. Inspired by the song of the same name, which she wrote for Girls Aloud’s second album, the book included exclusive photos from her childhood and during her rise to fame through Popstars: The Rivals.

She also released her last song, Wear It Like A Crown, in March 2021 and reached number one on iTunes.
