Tony Umez, a veteran Nollywood actor, has said that he is still owed money by several producers in the industry.
Tony, who appeared as a guest on Ebuka Obi's "Rubbin Uchendu's Minds" show, talked about his challenges when he first started getting paid as an actor.
He claimed that money was what drew him into acting in the first place. The model I had in my brain at the time was the Hollywood model, where you hear about someone making $20 million on a single film and you think to yourself, "Whoa!" It was fantastic to me, and I saw serious potential.
Then I entered Nollywood and in my first movie, I played the lead in my very first movie. I played Chief Ikanga and I was to be paid N23,000 but only up till tomorrow.
So I felt it wasn’t an industry I would survive in, so I left for about two years. I was doing private tutoring. I was making some money from that, and that kept me going.
After about 2 years, I came back and did the movie, The Princess, where I starred alongside Zack Orji, before I hit it big with Divergent, and they paid me for that one.
