Naomi Campbell, an American model, has slammed the Recording Academy for failing to award Wizkid his well-deserved Grammy.
While Wizkid and Nigerians want to move on with their lives, Naomi believes the topic should not be forgotten. She took to Instagram to chastise Grammy organizers for incorrectly categorizing Essence and the Made In Lagos CD.
According to her, the Grammys are tone-deaf and always finding new ways to misrepresent and neglect the categorization of Afrobeats.
She said that the Grammys deprived Big Wiz of his prizes by placing Essence, a song remixed by Justin Bieber, in the incorrect category instead of "Song Of The Year."
“Made in Lagos’s album and song Essence were clearly in the wrong category. How can you ignore the song Essence, the song by Wizkid and Tems that was covered and remixed by Justin Bieber? You seem to isolate it under global when it should have been in the song of the year category," she captioned one of her posts on Instagram.
Naomi also showed a chart showcasing Wizkid's Billboard triumphs, as well as how Essence was a hit not just in Africa, but also in the United States. She warned the Recording Academy that their deception would not go unnoticed, even if they chose to disregard the 1.3 billion people who protested their injustice.
