Nigerian R&B sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, is on the verge of making history as the first African artist to win two Grammys in one night, according to Billboard.

Tems’ Grammy Nominations

Tems has earned an impressive three nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards, set to take place on Sunday, February 2nd, at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. Her nominations include:

Best African Music Performance“Love Me Jeje”

Best Global Music Album“Born In The Wild”

Best R&B Song“Burning”

Billboard Predicts Two Grammy Wins for Tems

Billboard anticipates that Tems will take home two of the three awards, further solidifying her dominance in the global music scene.

In the Best African Music Performance category, her hit track “Love Me Jeje”—a remake of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic—is projected to win against:

  • “Tomorrow”Yemi Alade
  • “MMS”Asake & Wizkid
  • “Sensational”Chris Brown ft. Davido & Lojay
  • “Higher”Burna Boy

While Billboard has placed “Sensational” by Chris Brown, Davido & Lojay as one to watch, it acknowledges Burna Boy’s “Higher” as a strong contender due to his track record.

Tems’ Debut Album ‘Born In The Wild’ Expected to Win Big

Billboard also predicts that Tems will win the Best Global Music Album for her critically acclaimed debut album, “Born In The Wild.”

She faces stiff competition from:

  • “Alkebulan II”Matt B ft. Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
  • “Paisajes”Ciro Hurtado
  • “Heis”Rema
  • “Historias De Un Flamenco”Antonio Rey

Notably, Tems is the only previous Grammy winner in this category, further boosting her chances. However, Antonio Rey’s album has been flagged as a strong competitor.

Will Tems Make History?

While Billboard’s predictions are promising, the Grammys are known for surprises. If Tems secures two wins, she will cement her legacy as a trailblazer for African music on the global stage.

Grammy Night Highlights

🎤 Host: South African comedian Trevor Noah will return for the fifth consecutive year.

🎵 Top Nominee: Beyoncé leads with 11 nominations, setting the stage for another unforgettable night.
