The United States government has officially returned $52.

88 million tied to former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

These funds, forfeited as part of the Galactica assets linked to Alison-Madueke and her associates, signify a significant milestone in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

On Friday, U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr., signed the Asset Return Agreement at the Federal Ministry of Justice headquarters in Abuja. Representing Nigeria, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, highlighted the critical role of the agreement in advancing the nation's anti-corruption efforts.

Fagbemi emphasized that this development reaffirms President Bola Tinubu's dedication to eliminating corruption and redirecting recovered funds toward projects that directly benefit Nigerians.

ā€œThis agreement represents the successful repatriation of $52.88 million from the forfeiture of the Galactica assets linked to Diezani Alison-Madueke and her network. More importantly, it guarantees that the recovered funds will be utilized for developmental initiatives,ā€ Fagbemi stated.

The repatriation is the result of collaborative efforts between multiple stakeholders and underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating corruption. The recovered assets are set to drive developmental projects, promising a brighter future for Nigeria.

This landmark event signals a new chapter in Nigeria's fight against corruption and serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.
