Ten days after being implanted in his rectum by his friends as part of a drunken prank, a man had to have the steel cup removed.
The cup, which had a diameter of 3 to 4 inches (8 cm) and a length of 6 inches (15 cm), was surgically removed at a nearby hospital.
The 45-year-old man, who is from Balipadar, India, was having a good time drinking with his friends in Gujarat, an area of India where it is unlawful to consume alcohol.
According to reports, the victim's friends claimed they played a "prank" on him by putting the cup up his butthole while he was "in an inebriated state."
For fear of looking foolish, the man delayed reporting the incident.
Local media reported that as soon as his family learned, they hurried him to the hospital.
The cup was discovered to be stuck in the intestine, according to an X-ray taken at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur City.
NDTV India said they removed the cup after 10 days when the man's stomach started swelling as he had not defecated since the incident.
At first, the doctors tried to retrieve the cup through the rectum, but then had to resort to surgery due to the sheer size of the object.
Doctors had to cut through the intestine to finally retrieve it. The procedure, which was carried out on Friday, August 19, took around 2.5 hours in total.
The man is recovering after the surgery, and his condition is said to be stable.
He will remain in the hospital for another 4-5 days under observation.
