The incident occurred in Okpuno Umuogali village, where Kingsley was accused of selling doors from a yet-to-be-completed building belonging to his Germany-based elder brother, Mr. Joseph Okoye. In a fit of anger, Joseph reportedly hired thugs to teach his brother a lesson, leading to Kingsley's untimely death.

According to family sources, the dispute between the two brothers had been simmering for some time. It escalated into a family feud, eventually involving outsiders who allegedly conspired to end Kingsley's life.

An eyewitness and maternal cousin to the deceased, Mr. Kosisochukwu Samuel Uzoekwe, recounted the series of events. He revealed that Joseph had sold one of the family properties and refused to share the proceeds with Kingsley, his only brother. Kingsley, struggling to make ends meet, hoped to use his share of the money to establish himself.

“Life had been so difficult for Kingsley because he thought he could have used his own share of the sale as capital to establish himself,” Uzoekwe explained. Out of desperation, Kingsley sold three foreign doors from Joseph's building site to buy food.

Upon learning of the sale, Joseph sent money to his sister, Ebele, who arranged for local thugs to punish Kingsley. Ebele contracted three individuals: Mr. Samuel Arinze (popularly known as Jukwaaese), Emeka (known as DPO), and another non-local referred to as Moon Boy.

The thugs abducted Kingsley from Okpuno Umuogali, taking him to an undisclosed location where they severely beat him. When Kingsley became unresponsive, they transported him to Sahara Hospital in Oba, where he was declared dead on arrival. His body was later moved to FAH Hospital and Embalment Center for preservation.
