After 91 years since its founding, Araromi-Oke Odo, a community in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, now has access to electricity, Naijacrawl has learned.
Additionally, this is due to Governor Ademola Adeleke's pledge to work with independent energy providers to bring light to long-darkened communities.
The community, which was established in 1932, reportedly lacked electricity as well as many other essential amenities like pipe-borne water and good roads, according to Naijacrawl.
Governor Adeleke praised the community's residents for their perseverance since they first moved to the town in 1932. He was represented by the Commissioner for Energy, Adeyemo Ademola.
Adeyemi gave the assurance that the project would be expanded to include other localities in the state.
“This is the first of its kind in this state. We appreciate the Sholep company, and we are anticipating more of it.
“There are projects of this nature going on in eight different communities in Ife-South. We are extending the same gesture to other communities in other local governments in Osun.
“The state government is partnering with foreign investors to give energy to our state. Many communities are not on the grid, so the state government is allowing independent energy to fill the gap to light up Osun State,” Adeleke said.
In his words, the CEO of Sholep Energy Limited, Engr. Olalekan Adeleke Shogbesan, revealed that the World Bank-assisted project, mainly financed by the company (Sholep), was underway in eleven (11) different communities within the Ife-south local government area of the state.
He said the 50KWP hybrid solar mini-grid power plant, whose construction started in 2018, was enough to supply power to the entire community of Araromi Oke-Odo for adequate electricity.
The Alara of Araromi Oke-odo, Oba Abass Gbadamosi, expressed happiness that the project came to fruition, as many doubted it when the company came to the community.
He promised that the community would cooperate with the company in all ramifications and protect its business interests.
