For the second time in one week, another gas cylinder explosion has been recorded in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, in a storey building with 104 rooms.

The fire outbreak occurred due to an unattended gas cylinder explosion on Friday at about 20:05 hours along Ejiba Road, beside Ejiba Bridge in Ilorin metropolis.

The first gas cylinder explosion within this week was recorded on Wednesday at No. 90, Koro Compound, Oke-Apomu Quarters of Ilorin, in which a 20-room building was set ablaze.

Speaking on the Friday fire incident, the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, said the firefighters responded swiftly and arrived to find several rooms out of the 104 ablaze.

“The firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire, and out of 104 rooms in the storey building, they successfully saved 89, with only 15 affected by the inferno.”
Hassan disclosed that “preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a gas cooker left unattended.”

The Director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John, urged the public to prioritize safety at all times, emphasizing that this was the second fire incident within a week linked to negligence in handling gas cookers.

He strongly warned against using gas cookers without strict attention.
