The New Arewa Youth Movement (NAYM) has strongly criticized a recent song by Dauda Kahutu Rarara, a popular musician associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing him of fueling animosity between Nigerians and Nigeriens.

In a statement released on Friday, NAYM described Rarara’s music—which targets Niger’s Head of State—as “inflammatory” and warned that it threatens the longstanding ties between Nigeria and Niger.

“Nigeria and Niger share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties that must not be undermined by reckless rhetoric. It is highly irresponsible for anyone, especially a public figure with a large following, to use their platform to create division between people who have coexisted peacefully for generations,” the statement read.

The group urged security agencies to take immediate action by inviting the musician for questioning over his “divisive activities.”

“We call on the appropriate security authorities to swiftly summon Dauda Kahutu Rarara for questioning. His actions risk escalating tensions, and it is crucial that he be cautioned against further incitement,” NAYM stated.

Additionally, the group appealed directly to Rarara, encouraging him to reconsider his approach and use his influence to promote peace rather than discord.

“We urge Rarara to reflect on the consequences of his words and refrain from using his voice to incite division. Artists should be ambassadors of peace and unity, not sources of conflict and hostility,” the statement emphasized.

The singer was accused of using offensive language against the President of Niger, calling him names like fraudster, a deceiver, the cancer of Niger, the kidney disease of Niger, liar, a hypocrite, etc

Though he referred to him as “Chali” instead of the more commonly known name “Tchianey.”

The song has already stirred up reactions on social media in Northern Nigeria and has prompted responses from musicians in the Republic of Niger.

NAYM further stressed that political leadership is fleeting, but the bond between the people of Nigeria and Niger is enduring.

“It is essential to remember that leaders like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria and General Abdourahmane Tchiani of Niger will eventually leave office, but the people of both nations will continue to live side by side. Political leadership is temporary, but the ties of kinship between Nigeria and Niger are permanent,” NAYM noted.

The statement concluded with a call for unity, urging all public figures to use their platforms responsibly.

“We call on all individuals, especially those in positions of influence, to prioritize peace and unity. Our shared future depends on our ability to coexist in mutual respect and cooperation,” the group stated.

The statement was signed by Muhammad Farouk, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the New Arewa Youth Movement.
