The Federal Government has advised motorists traveling through Kogi State from the South and East to the North not to use the dual carriageway between Lokoja and Abuja.

In a statement issued in Lokoja, the Federal Controller of Works for Kogi State, Engr. Jimoh Kajogbola, issued the warning and urged drivers to take alternate routes.

The River Niger has overflowed the Lokoja-Abuja dual carriageway at Koton-Karfe as a result of the nation's flooding, he claimed, making it hazardous for drivers.

“Abuja-bound motorists from the South-West are advised to pass through the Ilorin-Mokwa-Bida road, while motorists from the East and South-South are advised to pass through the Makurdi-Lafia road.”

The alternative roads, according to him, should be adhered to pending the time the water level recedes.

Kajogbola said that the advice equally applies to South-South, South-East and South-West bound motorists from the Northern parts of the country.

He urged them to either take the Abuja-Lafia-Makurdi-Otukpa road or the Abuja-Bida-Mokwa-Jebba road pending the time that the water will subside at Koton-Karfe.
