After few days that the owner of the multi billion dollar Refinery in Lagos Aliko Dangote unveiled that the product can start flooding the market anytime soon, the white coloured petrol has now become the talk of the town as the colour is drastically different from the regular petrol colour Nigerians know.
Expert in the industry believed that the Dangote petrol has been blended with ethanol popularly call E10 petrol.
What you need to know:
Many cars in Nigeria cannot use E10 petrol. However, the cars that were built after 2010 will be compatible with E10 fuel. If it was built between 2000 and 2010, it will likely not run on E10 fuel and any attempt to use it will damage the engine.
However, there are some exceptions, including models from major brands like Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Audi and Mercedes.
Disadvantages of E10:
Hampers mileage! - Use of ethanol can be the reason for mileage loss. It is because ethanol (E10 fuel) molecule contains less energy value than petrol. This is the reason why have less energy potential, which hampers the mileage.
Water content not good for your vehicle! - Pure ethanol absorbs water from the atmosphere around it. Well, it attracts so much that it is impossible for chemical producers to sell 100% pure ethanol as there will always be a little bit of water content in it. From on-road vehicles to marine users, the attraction of water is a huge problem. It happens because when water mounts up in a fuel tank, it settles down to a lot of fuel problems and issues.
Different layers of petrol and ethanol! - The layer of ethanol gets separated from the petrol, which results in two different kinds of layers of different compounds. Ideally, it should be a homogenous mixture of both petrol and ethanol.
Performance issues! - A loss of 2-4 octane points in the fuel mixture caused when petrol separates from ethanol. Well, this causes performance issues and is very unsatisfactory for most vehicles.
The probability of equipment damage The blend of ethanol and water blend gets settled at the foot of the tank, where the fuel line exists. The fuel line can very easily suck the mixture of water and ethanol up into the combustion chamber.
In such a scenario it will burn like an excessively lean mixture, which won’t have enough petrol. Burning such fuel can be the reason for valve damage.
Reason why the pms Is pure like water. Petrol has different colors, When it's Red that means Octane was added. When it's slightly Green then Octane is slightly very much. When is Yellow it means it has no lead in it. That means it's unleaded. But when it's clear as water as seen in the video then you should know that ethanol was used. What ethanol does is that it improves engine efficiency and power.
Because ethanol has a good amount of oxygen it lessens the amount of carbonation in engines there by reducing air pollution which comes as Carbon dioxide. So this is the best form of Petrol.
