Approximately 1,500 staff members of the Central Bank of Nigeria are scheduled to resume work at its Lagos office this Friday, following their redeployment from the headquarters.

Despite facing criticism, this relocation plan is reportedly still in motion, and affected employees are expected to commence their duties on February 2, marking the first week of the upcoming month.

A source within the apex bank shared exclusive insights with The PUNCH, affirming the continuation of the plan despite the controversy surrounding it. The decision to move certain departments from the CBN's headquarters to its Lagos office is attributed to the new management's commitment to staff safety, improved productivity, and the need to alleviate congestion at the head office.

Reports indicate that the departments marked for relocation by CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso include Banking Supervision, Other Financial Institutions Supervision, Consumer Protection Department, Payment System Management Department, and Financial Policy Regulations Department. This strategic move aims to optimize operational efficiency and create a conducive work environment for the affected staff members.

As the Central Bank of Nigeria implements this significant change, it remains to be seen how the decision will impact both the institution's overall functionality and the experiences of the relocated staff in their new work environment. The forthcoming weeks will likely provide further insights into the effectiveness of this restructuring initiative.
