The founder and General Overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, was granted bail in the amount of N2 million by the Federal High Court in Lagos State on Friday, April 1.
The cleric was caught with drugs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport last month by officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA.
The pastor was apprehended with 54 cannabis sticks wrapped around his body while on his way to a crusade in Nairobi, Kenya.
The NDLEA charged the man with one count of illegally exporting the banned substance after his arrest. On March 29, he was first charged.
"That you Ekwem Emmanuel Ugochukwu, male, adult, without lawful authority exported 40 grammes of Cannabis Sativa, a narcotic drug similar to Cocaine, Heroin, and LSD, on or about the 7th day of March 2022 during the outward clearance of passengers of Ethiopia Airlines flight to Kenya at screening 1, Departure Hall of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja-Lagos, during the outward clearance of passengers of Ethiopia Airlines flight
After the defendant's "not guilty" plea to a one-count charge, the presiding judge, Justice Daniel Osiagor, granted him bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety and delayed the trial until June 26.
He did, however, detain the defendant in NCoS custody until his bail requirements were met.
