Speaking at the police headquarters in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Commissioner of Police, Mr Abaniwonda Olufemi, condemned the heinous act committed by Nkwo. He detailed the incident, stating that on April 28, 2024, a case of infanticide was reported at Oleh Division. Nkwo, hailing from Isoko South LGA, reportedly disposed of her child, aged one year and four months, in a well along the road in Araya community, Isoko South LGA. The child was discovered by children playing near the well, prompting Nkwo's arrest. She admitted to dumping the child on April 26, 2024.

Additionally, Olufemi addressed another concerning issue, revealing that the command received intelligence about a suspect producing counterfeit alcoholic beverages in Bomadi. Following his directive, the DPO Bomadi Division led an operation resulting in the arrest of Chiemenam Adigwe, 45, with over a hundred bottles of fake alcoholic drinks recovered. Adigwe had allegedly mixed ethanol with water and added flavor to produce fake drinks packaged in bottles resembling popular brands.

Amidst ongoing kidnappings and killings in Ika North-East and Ika South areas, where farmers have been targeted by gunmen, Olufemi assured that the command had deployed personnel to the area in collaboration with the Edo State Command due to the area's boundary between Delta and Edo states.

In a startling confession, Nkwo admitted to the crime, stating that she killed her son because she could no longer care for him, as the father had abandoned them. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges faced within communities, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and support networks for vulnerable individuals.
