Ajoke John, an 89-year-old woman, and her daughter Oreoluwa were killed in Lagos State by the domestic worker Joseph Ogbu, who was sentenced to death by hanging by an Ikeja High Court.

According to NAN, Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay ruled on Monday that the prosecution's case against the convicted person on the three-count charge bordering on murder and armed robbery was sufficiently established.

Since the defendant admitted to living with the deceased and being the only eyewitness to the crime, Nicole-Clay concluded today that the defendant had confessed to the crime.

Nicole-Clay said, “He killed Adejoke by strangling her and Oreoluwa by stabbing her to death. As the defense didn’t raise objections to the admissibility of the confessional statement, there’s no doubt that the defendant confessed to the crimes.
“The defendant couldn’t give an explanation as to what he was doing with all the stolen items he was found with at about 2 a.m. on the date he was arrested.
“This court has found Joseph Ogbu guilty of these heinous crimes, and you’re hereby sentenced to death by hanging. May God have mercy on your soul.

The convict, while gesticulating, begged the court for mercy.

He said in Pidgin English, “The mama no die for my presence. I beg for mercy.”
