A suspected inebriated police officer killed two guests and injured others at a birthday party in the Gowon Estate area of Lagos State on Sunday night.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the yet-to-be-identified police officer worked as a security guard at a bar in the neighborhood when the celebrant invited him to his birthday party.

The incident was confirmed by state police, who also stated that attempts were being made to identify, apprehend, and convict the fugitive murder cop.

The horrific footage of the tragic occurrence was provided on Twitter by @themannaman, who explained that the police officer truly wanted to shoot into the air.

The Twitter user wrote on his handle that “the same policemen, called for security, are the same people that shot and killed those they were called to protect." Which way? ”
He also wrote that the “birthday celebrant invited the police for security." The said policeman, allegedly while drunk, wanted to shoot upwards, then accidentally shot at them.

When the killer cop misfired and fired rounds into the guests who were dancing, he was purportedly trying to impress the birthday celebrant.

Two people have been arrested in connection with it after the owner of the pub reported the incident to the Gowon Estate police station.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the image maker in charge of the state police command, confirmed the incident but said he had not been fully briefed on what had occurred.

The Lagos police spokesperson said: “I can confirm there was shooting at the bar on Sunday night and two people were killed. We are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. I can assure you that those responsible will not go free.

He also added that “they will face the music." The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, has zero-tolerance for such behaviour and has already given marching orders to the DPO to fish out the culprits. ”
