At least nine people lost their lives, while three others sustained severe injuries in a devastating road accident along the Ayetoro section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The fatal crash, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, involved a Toyota Hiace bus (UYY 165 ZY) and a stationary truck (DKA 244 XC). According to Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, excessive speed and driver fatigue were the primary causes of the accident.
"A total of 13 people were involved—10 men and three women. Sadly, nine victims (six males and three females) were confirmed dead, while three others suffered injuries," Okpe stated in a report to DAILY POST.
She further explained that the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle, crashing directly into the parked truck. The injured victims were rushed to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Idera Morgue in Sagamu.
FRSC Sector Commander, Fasakin Akinwumi, expressed deep concern over reckless driving habits, emphasizing the dangers of ignoring speed limits and the importance of taking mandatory breaks during long journeys.
This tragic incident serves as yet another reminder of the urgent need for stricter road safety measures and responsible driving practices.
