The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against two Chinese nationals, Duan Ya Hong and Xiao Yi, as well as their company, Ebuy Concept Limited, before a Federal High Court in Ilorin.

The allegations revolve around purported illegal mining activities conducted in Kwara State.

The defendants faced a single-count charge related to the possession of solid minerals without the requisite license and the failure to remit royalties to the Federal Government, as mandated by law.

This update was shared by the EFCC on its official platform on Friday, indicating that the arraignment occurred on Monday, April 22. The commission detailed the charge, specifying that it pertains to the acquisition of minerals without proper authorization and the subsequent transport of 30 tons of minerals via a truck bearing registration number JJJ 386 XT, allegedly in breach of the law.

The charge reads: "That you, Ebuy Trading Worldwide Nig.LTD, Duan Ya Hong, Xiao Yi, sometime in February 2024 at Banni, in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court, without lawful authority, purchased minerals to wit; 30 tons of minerals conveyed in a Truck, with Registration Number JJJ 386 XT and thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 1(cool(b) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act 1984’."
