The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon.

Benjamin Okezie Kalu, disclosed ongoing efforts aimed at securing the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). Kalu highlighted that alongside legal proceedings, concerted political endeavors are underway behind the scenes to ensure Kanu's freedom.

Speaking on a special edition of "The Ben Kalu’s Mandate," a radio program on FLO FM in Umuahia, Abia State, Kalu emphasized the strategic approach being pursued to achieve this objective. He underscored the commitment of the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P), an initiative he recently launched to address security challenges in the region through non-kinetic means, to foster reconciliation, including involving Kanu in the peace-building agenda.

Kalu expressed his unwavering support for Kanu, acknowledging his significance in the pursuit of peace within the region. He affirmed, "I will never deny Nnamdi Kanu. He’s my brother. We come from the same place, and I will never be happy having him incarcerated when we can have him out and increase our pursuit towards peace."

While respecting legal processes, Kalu advocated for a political solution to resolve the situation, highlighting his efforts to engage with the federal government on the matter. He revealed discussions with President Buhari regarding the need for Igbo elders to convene and engage with the President, with Kanu's case being a key agenda item.

Kalu concluded by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for Kanu's release, emphasizing that while legal proceedings continue, political efforts remain vital in securing a favorable outcome.

The disclosure by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu sheds light on the multifaceted approach being employed to address the issue of Nnamdi Kanu's detention, underscoring the importance of both legal and political strategies in achieving a resolution.
