The Gombe State Police Command has arrested five teenage boys for their alleged involvement in the tragic death of a man during a wedding celebration in Jauro Ali village.
The victim's identity is yet to be confirmed.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, the incident occurred on December 21, 2024, around 10:00 PM, during a lively matrimonial ceremony. What began as a heated argument between the suspects and the victim escalated into a violent clash, resulting in the victim being brutally attacked with wooden sticks. The assault inflicted fatal internal injuries.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Jauro Babawuro (17), Yayaji Bello (16), Baffaji Adamu (16), Babangida Dotti (18), and Yaya Bapati (17). The police acted swiftly following a formal complaint by Dotti Manu, the victim’s father and a resident of Wuro Wandara village.
In his statement, Abdullahi explained, "The victim's father reported that during the wedding celebration, an altercation broke out between his son and the suspects. The argument quickly escalated, leading the suspects to beat the victim with sticks, causing severe injuries."
This unfortunate incident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for conflict resolution and vigilance at public gatherings. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to bring justice to the bereaved family.
