The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old suspect identified as Precious in connection with the horrifying murder of a 10-year-old girl in the Orhoakpo Ethiope East area of Delta State.
According to a statement released by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, via social media on Monday, the tragic incident reportedly occurred on January 9.
During police interrogation, Precious confessed to abducting the young girl on behalf of two unnamed individuals. These individuals allegedly killed the girl with a machete after luring Precious into the act with the promise of a N200,000 reward.
Further details from the police revealed that it was Precious' girlfriend, who also happens to be the victim's sister, who raised the alarm when her sibling went missing.
PPRO Bright Edafe explained that the suspect initially approached his girlfriend with a chilling request: he asked her to hand over one of her 10-year-old triplet siblings for an undisclosed purpose. Although she refused his request, she failed to inform her parents, the authorities, or the community. Tragically, her silence allowed Precious to carry out his plan.
Edafe stated, “The lady has 10-year-old triplet siblings. The suspect approached her and asked if she could give him one of them for ‘something.’ She declined but did not report the matter, which eventually led to the victim’s disappearance and death.”
The incident has left the community in shock and highlights the critical importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious activities to the authorities. The police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring all those involved in the heinous crime to justice.
