Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed his unwavering determination to continue contesting for the presidency as long as his health permits.

Speaking in an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America in Abuja, Atiku affirmed his commitment to his political journey.

When asked if he plans to run again, Atiku responded, “Of course, I will keep contesting again and again as long as I am alive and healthy. Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning.”

Acknowledging the challenges facing the PDP, Atiku emphasized the necessity of strong support and collaboration with other parties. He noted that, given the current state of the PDP, a single-handed effort would not be sufficient to secure a win in the presidential election.

By the time the next presidential election arrives in 2027, Atiku will be 81 years old. His political career has seen him run for the presidency six times, with three official candidacies in 2007, 2019, and 2023. Drawing inspiration from Abraham Lincoln’s persistence, Atiku remains hopeful and resolute despite previous setbacks.

Atiku also addressed the internal issues within the PDP, stressing the importance of unity and strategic alliances with other political groups. He believes that only through a united front can the PDP hope to reclaim the presidency in 2027.
