The Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Mevo Alex Sunday, for impersonating an officer.
The arrest was announced on the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency's website on Wednesday.
According to the agency's statement, Sunday confessed to purchasing the uniform from an unidentified LNSA officer named Mr. Femi in November last year for N25,000. He alleged that Mr. Femi promised to secure him a job with the Neighbourhood Corps in exchange for the payment.
The statement detailed the incident: "Mevo Alex Sunday, 35, residing at No 1, Shillon Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, was apprehended by Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps officers at Badagry Roundabout for impersonating an operative of the agency. Upon investigation and interrogation at the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency Command office in Badagry, Mevo claimed that the uniform was sold to him by Mr. Femi, an unknown LNSA officer, whom he met at Odi-Olowo LCDA Command. He further stated that Mr. Femi promised to help secure employment with the Neighbourhood Corps after collecting N25,000, and a week later, provided him with a full uniform."
Ifalade Oyekan, General Manager of LNSA, issued a public warning about impostors posing as agency officers. He emphasized the agency's zero-tolerance policy for impersonation and its commitment to delivering top-notch service.
"Mr. Governor expects top-notch service delivery from the agency and will not subscribe to any form of indiscipline. We are on our toes to ensure the safety and security of Lagosians," Oyekan added.
