Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed citizens of the state to pray for Nigeria as the country marks its 63rd independence anniversary.
The governor also cancelled Independence Day celebrations earlier, slated for Sunday, October 1.
On Sunday, October 1, Nigeria will be celebrating her 63rd independence anniversary, having gained independence from Great Britain on Saturday, October 1, 1960.
Adeleke, who spoke in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, urged Osun residents to pray for the continuous peace and prosperity of Nigeria.
“Let us use Independence Day to meditate and pray for the state of our nation. Our people are passing through tough times.
“It is time to take stock and seek divine intervention and guidance in the affairs of our nation.
“I greet Osun people and Nigerians in general as Independence Day knocks at our doors. Here in Osun, we will celebrate with meditation and prayers,” he said.
