The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended three suspects linked to a 2019 case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the suspects—Malam Adamu Aliyu, Malam Mukhtar Abdulmumin, and Malam Nafiu Ibrahim—were arrested in Illela, Sokoto State, after an extensive investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse.
The case dates back to July 2, 2019, when a 19-year-old, Ahmad Abdullahi of Fanisau Quarters, was reported missing by his brother, Tijjani Umar, at Hadejia ‘A’ Division.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects deceived the victim with a false promise of making "spiritual money" that would fund his studies abroad. After fraudulently obtaining N400,000 from him, they lured him to a riverside in Hadejia, strangled him, and dumped his body in the water when he demanded a refund.
Following the crime, the suspects fled to the Niger Republic, where they remained in hiding until their recent arrest in Illela on February 8, 2025.
SP Shiisu confirmed that the suspects have been transferred to Jigawa State and charged in court.
