The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied having Miyetti Allah's President, Bello Bodejo, in custody after he was reportedly arrested by soldiers and DSS operatives on Tuesday.
The revelation came through a brief WhatsApp message from the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, who stated, "Bello Bodejo is not with the DSS."
Adding to the confusion, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, expressed uncertainty about Bodejo's arrest, stating, "I don't have information about his arrest." This conflicting information raises questions about the circumstances surrounding Bodejo's detention.
Earlier, the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Saleh Al-Hassan, had confirmed the arrest in an exclusive telephone interview. According to Al-Hassan, soldiers of the Nigerian Army and DSS operatives apprehended Bodejo at the Miyetti Allah's Head Office in Tundun Maliya Cattle Market, Nasarawa State.
The arrest reportedly occurred in connection with the creation of a vigilante group in Nasarawa State. However, Al-Hassan disputed this claim, asserting that Bodejo's arrest was unrelated to the establishment of the nomad's vigilante group. He explained, "I can categorically tell you that his arrest was not in connection with the creation of the Miyetti Allah vigilante group. We created the group for security purposes, and the police, DSS, and Army were all informed and they knew about it."
Al-Hassan suggested that Bodejo might have been invited by the soldiers for clarifications, emphasizing that both the DSS and the Army were aware of the vigilante group's formation. Despite this, the conflicting statements from the DSS and the Army leave the public puzzled about the actual circumstances surrounding Bello Bodejo's arrest.
As this story unfolds, it raises concerns about transparency and communication between security agencies, leaving the public eagerly awaiting further details to shed light on the situation and provide clarity on the conflicting reports.
