The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) uncovered a shrine, guarded by a snake, being used to store illicit drugs.

The discovery was made in the Igor community of Benin City.

According to the NDLEA, the operatives found a specially constructed large hole in a wall, cleverly concealed behind wallpapers and surrounded by fetish objects. This hidden compartment was being used to store various illicit substances.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, released a statement on Sunday detailing the operation. Among the recovered substances were methamphetamine and several potent strains of cannabis, including Loud, Colorado, and Arizona, with a total weight of 8.743 kg.

"A snake-guarded shrine used to store illicit drugs in Igor community, Benin City, Edo State, has been raided by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, who detected a specially constructed large hole storage in a wall covered with wallpapers and fetish objects," the statement read.

Babafemi also mentioned that two women were arrested during the operation, and the snake guarding the shrine was neutralized.
