Efforts to improve the transportation system in the nation's capital may see the Federal Capital Territory Administration begin construction work on a 5.

76-kilometer rail track in the coming weeks.

To that purpose, a total of $272 million has been set aside as a cost implication for the entire 5.76-kilometer train track.

On Monday in Abuja, the Mandate Secretary of the Transport Secretariat, Alhaji Zakari Dobi, revealed the information while inspecting the vandalized light rail track, station, and Idu training centre.

According to him, the secretariat is doing all possible to ensure that we return to the site for the building of 5.76 kilometers and the repair of the track's destroyed regions.

He was hopeful that the minister, who is so concerned about the Abuja light rail project, will approve it swiftly.

"This outing was influenced by two factors. To begin with, to be able to inspect and appraise the level of vandalism on the track once more. Second, to examine the training center at Idu rail station in the hopes of relocating some Departments of the Federal Capital Territory Administration Transportation Secretariat due to office space constraints in Area 11. "What we saw was quite bad, even though I had been briefed about the issue of vandalism when I assumed office."

"We intend to return to the location in Abuja to install a 5.76-kilometer rail track," he said. The building expense also includes the cost of repairing vandalized sections.

"We've seen some of the new sections that were vandalized," he said during the inspection. "I want to assume that the prediction made previously on mending the vandalized area will still accommodate what we witnessed."
